Fourteen West Tennessee school administrators have been selected to participate in the University of Memphis Leadership Fellows program. These individuals were selected to ensure that a pool of highly qualified leaders is available from which individuals can be selected to assume positions in the public schools as principals.
Preparing principals for 21st century schools has become a major concern of university professors across the nation as they realize that the traditional manner of preparing school principals no longer meets the needs of today's schools.

One of the final candidates to declare was state Sen. Jeff Kessler, D-Marshall, who announced his candidacy Saturday shortly before the 5 p.m. deadline. Kessler, the acting Senate president, has served in the Senate since 1997.
