WEST MILFORD - Luke Rigoglioso teetered on the brink of disaster. Just 20 seconds into his District 4 final, the three-time defending champ was on his back, in prime position to be pinned.
But Rigoglioso refused to succumb to Scott Mathews' powerful hold. The Wayne Valley senior wriggled loose, reversed the Pompton Lakes star and quickly turned the momentum in his favor. One period later, Rigoglioso earned a 20-5 technical fall - his third in the district - to win the 140-pound final and Most Outstanding Wrestler award.

BLOOMINGTON - A recent basketball practice attracted some former players to Thornwood High School. The timing was ideal for Thunderbirds' coach Bob Curran.
With his team preparing for this week's State Farm Holiday Classic, Curran didn't have to talk at length about restoring Thornwood's dominance in the Class AA portion of the tournament. The message was delivered by the ex-players, some of whom helped the Thunderbirds win four straight Classic titles from 1999 through 2002.

Virginia State University will long remember Brynn Rosser.
The versatile athlete from Hackensack, who'll receive her degree in history next week, became the first four-time javelin winner at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships. Her winning throw was 37.93 meters.

Dane Johnson fulfilled a dream but felt uncomfortable celebrating.
The Shady Side Academy senior won his fourth WPIAL individual title Saturday when his 140-pound opponent withdrew with an injury before their Class AA championship. Johnson became only the 18th wrestler to win four, but this victory wasn't quite how he'd imagined.

CONCORD, N.C. - Sponsorship of Jeff Gordon's car was filled Thursday when longtime partner DuPont announced a three-year extension with the four-time NASCAR champion.
DuPont has been with Gordon since his Cup debut in 1992, but the company is scaling back its commitment starting next year. It will be Gordon's primary sponsor in 14 races.

Sixteen-time Roanoke Valley Women's Golf Association City-County champion Dot Bolling is in Radford playing in the Virginias- Carolinas Women's Team Matches, and four-time champ Meredith Swanson is playing in the North & South Amateur in Pinehurst, N.C.
With both of the valley's big cats on the highway, the mice left in town see this edition of the City-County Championship as a chance not to only play, but also to win.
