SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China giving HSBC Holdings Plc entry to its gold futures market, a first for a foreign bank, is likely a harbinger of a further opening to local and overseas institutions to trade the precious metal. For the Shanghai Futures Exchange, which has received tepid interest in its gold futures, having HSBC as a trading member is arguably one of the best endorsements to show that it will play a larger role in China's booming gold market. That process in turn will enhance the lagging role of futures in Shanghai's gold market - an essential component to its hopes of becoming a major gold trading center on a par with London and New York.

The second part of a series discusses the integration of US small businesses into the export trade sector using available trade finance tools and resources. The subsequent need is to reduce the risk of loss to the small business exporter if and when their foreign customer does not pay the exporter's sales invoice. Sales made under irrevocable letters of credit are a traditional tool used to mitigate risk of loss. An LC places the US exporter's bank and their foreign customer's bank inside the trade transaction, reducing the risk of loss to both parties for failure of either one to live up to the export sales/purchase contract.
