Federal safely officials last week ordered a Union Township tire importer to recall 450,000 allegedly defective Chinese tires. The importer, Foreign Tire Sales Inc. (FTS), reportedly told federal officials that the tires lacked a critical component and may fall apart on the road at highway speeds.
The tire scandal comes barely four months after another Chinese import scandal that caused Canadian pet food maker Menu Foods to recall all its products.

The Office of the Attorney General and Division of Consumer Affairs on Thursday opened an investigation into a Union Township company that imported allegedly defective tires from China.
The action comes three days after the federal government announced a recall of 450,000 tires imported by the company, Foreign Tire Sales Inc.
