Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman is getting a new prize - a lifetime-achievement honor at the Golden Globes.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Wednesday that Freeman, 74, born in Memphis and raised in the Mississippi Delta, will receive the group's Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 69th annual Globes ceremony on Jan. 15.

LOS ANGELES - A trial is needed to determine whether the longtime producer of the Golden Globe Awards had the rights to negotiate a deal keeping the glitzy awards show on NBC through 2018, a federal judge has ruled.
S. District Judge Valerie Baker Fairbank issued two rulings in a lawsuit over whether a 1993 agreement granted the show's longtime producer, dick clark productions, the right to negotiate an extension with NBC last year. She refused to side with either dick clark productions or the show's organizers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

NEW YORK -- As host of the Golden Globe Awards, Ricky Gervais took sharp, arguably cruel jabs at targets including Charlie Sheen, Cher, the nominated film "The Tourist" and even the sponsoring Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Just doing his job, Gervais insists.

LOS ANGELES - The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which puts on the annual Golden Globe Awards, is suing Dick Clark Productions, claiming it signed an agreement with NBC to broadcast the awards show without the association's consent.
The HFPA's suit against Dick Clark Productions, which produces the Golden Globes show, and its parent company alleges trademark infringement and breach of contract.
