• Pirates Release Greek Ship

NAIROBI, Kenya - Somali pirates have released a Greek-owned ship and its 21 crew members, including 14 Filipinos, after more than a month in captivity, the Philippine government and the ship's owner said Friday. The embassy of the Philippines in Nairobi reported that the MV Delvina was heading to Mombasa with its crew, who were safe and in good health. Foreign Affairs spokesman Ed Malaya said the ship, seized on Nov. 5, was released around 2 a.m. Friday (1 p.m. EST Thursday, 1800 GMT Thursday).

In Parliament last week, Karl Samuda, the JLP's foreign affairs spokesman, criticised [Hugo Chavez]'s "socialism" and questioned whether Venezuela would use the Security Council seat "to further its undeniable anti-American agenda". Samuda's remarks followed the warning by his party boss, Bruce Golding, a week earlier that "we must not sell out our foreign policy for a few barrels of oil". The worries arise mainly from the standoff between Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe and Botswana's President Ian Khama, the only SADC leader to publicly reject Mugabe's disputed re-election last year. Millions of Zimbabweans live illegally in Botswana. Hundreds are deported every week, and violent crime linked to Zimbabweans has increased across the country. Mugabe conveyed the message to Khama that they should stop criticising each other in public.
