Patrick J. Socci, associate dean of Fordham University's business school, recently was named dean of Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business, in Hempstead. In addition to academic credentials, he brings experience in industry and Wall Street, including jobs at Citibank and a joint venture with Merrill Lynch and the Port Authority. Although Socci will formally take the helm on July 1, he talked with LIBN about the prospect of running Long Island's biggest business school, which last fall had 1,960 undergraduate and 733 graduate students.
What does running a business school entail these days? Is it fundraising, involving the business community or managing it day to day?

- Rachel Aloi of West Haven, daughter of Lisa Aloi Fiasconaro and the late Pasquale Aloi, graduated from the University of New Haven with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. Aloi achieved dean's list all four years for academic excellence and was a four-year starter for UNH's women's tennis team, of which she was captain her senior year. She is attending Fordham University pursuing her master's in social work.
- Valerie Parauka, daughter of Edward and Joyce Parauka of Hamden, received her bachelor's degree in art and minors in music and business administration from Johnson State College in Vermont. She is studying at Johnson for a certification to teach art in public schools. Parauka, a 1985 graduate of Hamden High School, lives in Colchester, Vt.
