Categorizing [George W. Bush]'s actions as more egregious than [Bill Clinton]'s, [Bruce Fein] said that Bush was "seeking more institutionally to cripple checks and balances and the authority of Congress... He has taken powers unto himself that were never intended to be in the executive.
Responding to Moyers' observation that the country was ahead of Congress on impeachment efforts, and how did he explain this, [John Nichols] replied, "People don't want to let this go. They do not accept Nancy Pelosi's argument that impeachment is, quote/unquote, off the table. Nancy Pelosi is wrong. Nancy Pelosi is disregarding her oath of office. She should change course now. And more importantly, members of her caucus and responsible Republicans should step up."

On September 7, 2002, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and President [George W. Bush] met with members of the press at Camp David. President Bush referred to a "new" report from the International Atomic Energy Agency allegedly stating, according to President Bush, that Iraq was "six months away" from building a nuclear weapon. "I don't know what more evidence we need," stated the President. He was lying. There was no such report.
In fact, numerous IAEA reports consistently denied any indication that Iraq had any nuclear capability. As Joseph Curl reported in the Washington Times, "'There's never been a report like that issued from this agency,' Mark Gwozdecky, the IAEA's chief spokesman, said yesterday in a telephone interview from the agency's headquarters in Vienna, Austria." Curl's ...

WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Two days ago, President Bush took to the podium for a nationally televised news conference to explain why he approved a secret program to allow America's surveillance apparatus to spy on American citizens. Because he failed to give candid answers about the program, leaving so many unanswered questions, the president's explanation has been met with a parade of bad news in the last 48 hours.
President Bush's own words, members of his own Party, and even a FISA judge contradict and reject the president's explanation of his decision to spy on American citizens," said Democratic National Committee Press Secretary Josh Earnest. "The fact that President Bush told the American people that all wiretaps require a court order two full years after ordering wa...

The American presidency has been called "A Glorious Burden" by the Smithsonian Museum, and the loneliest job in the world by historians. As we approach Christmas 2006 Anno Domini, President Bush is surely fully seized of the loneliness and burden of his office.
For rarely has a president stood more alone at a moment of high crisis than does our president now as he makes his crucial policy decisions on the Iraq War. His political opponents stand triumphant, yet barren of useful guidance. Many if not most of his fellow party men and women in Washington are rapidly joining his opponents in a desperate effort to save their political skins in 2008. Commentators who urged the president on in 2002-03, having fallen out of love with their ideas, are quick to quibble with and defame the president.

CLEVELAND - President Barack Obama strongly defended his opposition to extending Bush-era tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans on Wednesday and delivered a searing attack on Republicans and their House leader for advocating "the same philosophy that led to this mess in the first place.
Obama said the struggling U.S. economy can't afford to spend $700 billion to keep lower tax rates in place for the nation's highest earners despite a call by House Minority Leader John Boehner and other GOP leaders to do just that.

They're forcing people into this untenable situation, where in order to protect public lands, they have to say 'no' to schoolchildren," says Janine Blaeloch, executive director of the nonprofit Western Lands Project. "It diverts attention from their real agenda, which is privatizing public land.
As for the BLM proposal, the problem is not only the sale, but also where the money will go. Seventy percent of the BLM's general land-sale proceeds would be funneled away from land acquisition, where it's currently used, and into the general treasury. "It's public-land liquidation for deficit reduction," says David Alberswerth, senior policy advisor for The Wilderness Society.
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer thinks that both of this year's proposals - the Forest Service's and the BLM's - are...

There's nothing complicated in President George W. Bush's commutation of Scooter Libby's 30-month prison sentence for lying in the CIA outing case. Libby took the fall for him and for Vice President Dick Cheney, and the president showed his gratitude.
It was, after all, Bush who had declassified or authorized Cheney to declassify National Intelligence Estimate information with which Libby conducted his campaign to discredit Joseph Wilson, husband of outed CIA operative Valerie Plame.
