"Coach Rob was a very special person. He not only was an outstanding football coach, but he was also an excellent teacher and that is what coaching is really all about.
"For the Grambling family this is a very emotional time," [Doug Williams] said in a statement Wednesday. "I'm thinking about [Eddie Robinson, Jr.], the man, not in todaytime, but in the day and what he meant to me and to so many people."

The Connellsville School Board opened all the coaching positions associated with the high school varsity football program.
Jeff Immel was the head coach at Connellsville for the 2009 and '10 seasons, compiling a 1-17 record.

Embattled University of Pittsburgh Athletic Director Steve Pederson broke his silence Thursday, defending his search for a head football coach that ended with the hiring -- and firing -- of Mike Haywood and suggested that the current search might not be quickly resolved.
Speaking by telephone from his office on the Oakland campus, Pederson said he was blindsided by Haywood's arrest on a charge of assaulting the mother of his 21-month-old son in South Bend, Ind., on New Year's Eve.

Severn is off the list now that athletic director Julian Domenech hired Severna Park assistant coach Chris Kirchenheiter. A former assistant coach at the University of North Carolina before moving to a high school spot as an assistant at Lake Braddock in Virginia, Kirchenheiter has spent the last 10 years within the Green Hornets' system.
Now he'll try to help the short-handed Admirals get out of the funk that's caused a 7-33 record over the last four years.
