LIVERMORE FALLS -- Regional School Unit 73 directors on Thursday approved a three-year contract with Jay food service workers, Superintendent Bob Wall said Monday. The agreement calls for a 1.5-percent pay increase the first year, a 1.75-percent increase the second, and a 2-percent increase the third, he said.

Sodexo USA's unionized food service workers at the University of Pittsburgh's Oakland campus ratified a three-year contract this week that gives the 200 members pay raises ranging from a minimum of $1.50 an hour to as much as $4 an hour, said Matthew Painter, a spokesman for Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ. The agreement was approved by 90 percent of the workers voting, he said. Under the contract, the workers' wages will range from about $10 an hour to $15 an hour, Painter said.
The contract between Hempfield Area School District and its bus drivers, food service workers and custodians has expired, but don't expect a strike, according to officials. Negotiations toward a new contract will continue, said Gil Gall, a union representative for the Pennsylvania State Education Association. The employees are members of the Hempfield Area Education Support Professionals, which includes drivers, custodians, food service workers, paraprofessionals and assistant nurses. The previous three-year pact expired at 12:01 a.m. today.
DIXFIELD - Food service workers in the former SAD 43 school system saw their pay rise to almost that of the other two school districts in the Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10, thanks to action taken by the board last week. RSU 10 Superintendent Tom Ward said Wednesday that the 12 part- time nutrition employees who work in the Mountain Valley region will receive a 3 percent salary hike for the fiscal year that began July 1.
Union food service workers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania continued voting Thursday night on whether to authorize a strike against Aramark Corp., which represents 105 workers at several sites at the Indiana campus and Punxsutawney. Service Employees International Union's Workers United said it represents those workers, but that has been challenged by rival union Unite Here Local 57, both in Pittsburgh. Workers United spokeswoman Jennifer England said Aramark refused to bargain with the union on a contract to replace the pact that expires on July 14, even after the National Labor Relations Board in Pittsburgh recognized it as the bargaining agent.
