This study compared attitudes and confidence levels, regarding classroom nutrition education, of seventh grade teachers of nutrition, family and consumer sciences (FCS), or health education. A 17-item online questionnaire was used to obtain the data from randomly selected schools in Louisiana. Teachers who reported an educational background in FCS (n = 75) were significantly more confident in teaching nutrition and influencing students' nutrition related behaviors than teachers without an FCS background (n = 28). The findings suggest that teachers with an FCS background are more confident teaching students about healthy nutrition habits and are more likely to influence student behavior regarding nutrition.

According to the consensus established by the secondary literature, Foucault's early and middle work culminates in a kind of totalizing theoretical cage (of which "discipline" is the highest manifestation) that in turn constituted a kind of crisis or dead-end for Foucault's thinking by the mid1 970s __ Foucault's late work performs a 1 80-degree turn away from the (too- totalizing and demoralizing) "power" discourse of the early and mid1 970s and culminated in a renewed appreciation of the Enlightenment subject, the ethical arts of the self, and resistance to normalized totalization through individual action.3 What is especially notable about this thesis is that it cleaves Foucault's corpus in two, definitively separating the parts as having opposing interests and formulations. The Network for a Healthy California-LAUSD (Network) works with more than 9,300 teachers, school nurses and other school personnel to integrate nutrition education into LAUSD classroom curriculum and other school activities. They promote positive, healthy attitudes towards fruits, vegetables and physical activity for pre-K-12th grade students in an effort to reverse the rising obesity epidemic facing our district youth. The program is a collaborative effort between students, teachers, food service professionals, school nurses, parents, administrators, corporate partners and community members.
There are many ways NACs spread healthy messages to their peers, fami lies and communities. Some NACs paint posters that promote fruits and vegetables and then display them around the school campus...

The recent revival of the Poor People's Campaign y SCLC under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Eric Lee, CEO, and Tyrone Freeman, SCLC Board President and President of SEIU-ULTCW, is to be welcomed and supported, not only because it is a continuation of the last and unfinished campaign of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (May he be blessed always), but because of its continuing and current urgency and relevance to our unfinished struggle for a just and good society. Moreover, it has implications for the world. For the success of a national campaign is related in great part, as Dr. King taught, to how much we restrain the ruling regime's waste of resources on war and the failed fantasies of empire. Also, as Min. Malcolm X (Peace and blessings be upon him always and everywhere) taught, it is depende...
