LAS VEGAS - A Nevada man claims boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. directed his bodyguards to attack him at a Las Vegas casino last year after the man tried to take a photograph of the undefeated champion and asked about a fight with another star boxer, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in state court in Las Vegas. The lawsuit alleges Mayweather's bodyguards attacked Anthony Cliff near a valet parking stand at the Palms Casino Resort on March 27, 2010, after Mayweather accused Cliff of "disrespecting" him.
It was a helluva fight," [Floyd Mayweather Jr.], 30, said in the post-fight press conference. "He's a champion, but this was blood, sweat and tears for me. I let him know I was there (in the ring) to stay. I could have stayed on my toes and danced the entire fight, but I wanted to give the fans something good. "When I looked at the punch-stat numbers, I can see why I'm the new champion," Mayweather explained. "I fought the best fighter in our era and I beat him." [Oscar De La Hoya] disagreed: "I felt I won the fight I'm the champion and I always thought you have to do more than what he did to take someone's title. I do not feel like a loser. I did what I had to do. I'm okay with my strategy and I'm satisfied with my effort."
Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was jailed briefly Friday on a felony charge after his ex-girlfriend alleged he beat her and stole her cell phone during an argument in front of their three children. Mayweather, 33, said nothing as he was released from the Clark County jail on $3,000 bail after being booked on a grand larceny charge. He could face up to five years in state prison if he is convicted of taking items valued at less than $2,500. He is scheduled for an initial appearance Nov. 9 in Las Vegas Justice Court.
