In accordance with the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, as amended, (NMSA) and the National Wildlife Refuge System Administration Act of 1966 as amended by the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997, the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Wildlife Refuge System of the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) have initiated a review of Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS or sanctuary) boundaries, regulations and zoning scheme. GAINESVILLE, Fla., Feb. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission advanced Florida's ocean stewardship today by approving the National Park Service's management plan for the Dry Tortugas National Park. The vote approves the establishment of a Research Natural Area (RNA) adjacent to the Tortugas North Ecological Reserve, which was established by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the State of Florida in 2001. This vote will help preserve one of the most pristine ecosystems in the nation, valued by fishermen, scientists, conservationists and the public at large. LUCERNE VALLEY - Russian circus performers had been placing Kattaka in the ring to fight pit bulls for at least a year before Florida fish and game officers raided the illegal operation. Kattaka, a 3-year-old black panther, was malnourished, neglected and had attacked one of his trainers, so officers decided to euthanize the cat.
