Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is praising a settlement reached over a lawsuit that sought to break up the nation's largest electronic voting machine company, Elections Systems and Software. Last fall, ES&S acquired Premier Election Solutions, a division of Diebold Inc., for $5 million. The merger made ES&S the dominant electronic voting equipment provider in a majority of the counties in nine states, including Florida. The U.S. Department of Justice, along with the states, filed suit. The case centers on the fear that ES&S is monopolizing the industry. The settlement requires ES&S to divest itself of all hardware, software and other assets obtained in the merger. LAKELAND, Fla. - Inspectors say a central Florida Olive Garden accused of accidentally serving a 2-year-old boy sangria instead of orange juice has been warned but not fined.
Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation announced Monday that state agents plan to train employees at that Lakeland restaurant and hold inspections at other Olive Gardens. Officials found no criminal intent.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Agents from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (ABT) and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department arrested eight people July 18 following a sweep of Sistrunk Boulevard.
* Midway Market - Sameer Hasan-Tous was arrested for sale of alcoholic beverages to an underage person and Khaled Guname was arrested for sale of tobacco to a minor.
* Na Da Market - Said Maho was arrested for sale of individual cigarettes. (The sale of single or loose, unpacked cigarettes is a violation of FS 210.04, Florida's Tax on Tobacco Products chapter.)

According to the complaint, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, has not appropriately handled more than 100 recent cases of positive cocaine tests in racing greyhounds.
Despite clear and on-going evidence of state law violations, the Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering states that it does not alert law enforcement when a greyhound tests positive for cocaine," the complaint states. "Nor does the Division try to determine how such drugs are administered to the dogs, or by whom.
