TRIBUTES, CHANGES AND CHOICES The restaurant scene is full of surprises. First up, something much better than a polished apple is a dining opportunity at Lark Creek Inn and Yankee Pier in Larkspur, where May is Teacher Appreciation Month. The Lark Creek Group, recognizing the impact of budget cuts and layoffs in our schools, will take $10 off the check of any educator presenting a teacher identification card. While the offer does not include the cost of alcoholic beverages, there's no limit on visits to the restaurants...Perugina is the name of what used to be Mamma Mia in Novato's Nave Center. I'm sure that you have heard some great gospel singers sing that wrenching and uplifting song, "If I Can Help Somebody." It is usually sung at funerals, but not at weddings. I guess it should be sung at weddings also, since so many end unhappily. The words often draw tears to the eyes of those who have never helped anybody. Now, I don't want to get into that, but you know what I mean.
Just remember, the arteries and veins are connected. As the blood is pumped out of the heart through arteries, it is under great pressure. If those arteries are injured due to increased pressure, hardening of the arteries results. Arterial blood carries precious oxygen to organs throughout the body. What's this I hear about new warning labels on wine?
Reports in the press have begun appearing regarding a new round of proposed warning labels on wine bottles. These would alert consumers to the possible existence of food allergens in wine. The issue is becoming more contentious as product labels of all kinds delve into the myriad of "ingredients" that can appear, sometimes in trace quantities, in foods. Wine pops up on the radar because such things as wheat, milk, eggs and fish, though certainly not actual wine ingredients, are used at times in the winemaking process. Sometimes for cleaning barrels, sometimes for fining (clarifying) wine -- those products may be marginally involved in wine production.
