LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE - Responding to a projected budget decrease for the coming fiscal year, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said Friday that it was laying off 45 people.
This is just a projection, but right now it's about two percent (workforce reduction) over the course of the fiscal year -- that's about 100 employees out of the total 5,000 for the entire year, said Veronica McGregor, a JPL spokeswoman.

PETERSBURG -- Last night, the Petersburg City School Board and City Council met to discuss the possibilities for the upcoming fiscal year's budget.
We're looking at a $3.5 million budget shortfall," City Manager B. David Canada said. He added that closing the shortfall in the city's budget will be tough given that no sources of revenue are growing and virtually all are shrinking, including intergovernmental transfers, real estate taxes and sales tax.
