• Missouri Bank Keeps Buying in Northern Illinois

St. Louis, Missouri-based First Banks Inc has expanded its north-of-Chicago presence by acquiring Northway State Bank in Grayslake. The deal brings the number of Chicago-area acquisitions in the past year to four for the $8.7 billion holding company. Terrance McCarthy said the institution looks forward to expanding its presence in northern Illinois. Northway's strategic location, situated between Chicago and Milwaukee, will provide an excellent addition to the company's growing Chicago banking operation. McCarthy is the acquiring company's chief operating officer. First Banks acquired Continental Community Bank and Trust in Aurora in July 2004, CIB Bank, Hillside, in November 2004 and First Bank of the Americas, Back of the Yards, earlier this year.
