Golf caddie Steve Williams got to do something most people only dream about. He got sweet and very public revenge after being fired by Tiger Woods.
Many of us have been fired at some point. I got canned from a bartending job during college due to my own incompetence, and a few years later, I became one of the many individuals let go by a self- aggrandizing economics writer with no idea how to manage or relate to others. That latter firing felt unjustified and stirred thoughts of revenge.

A state appeals court upheld the firing of a St. Charles County employee as well as the disciplinary procedure the county used against the employee. At the same time the court resolved a dispute about potential due process issues before the Merit Commission.
William Turner was hired in July 2008 as the regional response planner in the county's Department of Community Health and Environment's Office of Emergency Preparedness and Epidemiology. A month ago, I would have bet the other way. There's no way I could have imagined that Bill Polian would be on the street today, and that his former Bills protege, A.J. Smith, would still be on the job in San Diego.
Good thing I'm not a betting man. Colts owner Jim Irsay shocked the NFL on Monday by firing Bill and Chris Polian, his vice chairman and general manager. A day later, Chargers owner Dean Spanos bucked public opinion by retaining Smith as GM and keeping embattled coach Norv Turner on board as well.

Few things are more unpleasant than firing someone. But if a member of the team is not up to the task or firm finances force a difficult decision, sometimes no other option exists. If you must let someone go, here are some dos and don'ts.
