Hundreds of police officers and firefighters are heading to Miami County in June, but it'll be for sport, not emergencies.
The county and numerous public and private venues will be hosting the 30th anniversary of the Ohio Police & Fire Games from June 10- 15. The games last were in the county in 2002.

It's summer in the city, and that means it's time to make plans for SportsFEST, the late August pro jet ski/beach volleyball/ firefighter challenge extravaganza, along with the WV Games on Labor Day weekend.
The two events involve hundreds of participants, attract thousands of spectators and will pump more than a million dollars into the local economy, Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO Patty Bradley said during a Thursday morning news conference at the Civic Center.

MILFORD -- The 39th Annual Engine 260 Antique Fire Apparatus Show and Muster kicks off this morning, featuring a parade of classic vehicles, firefighter competitions, a large flea market, and numerous games for children. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. at Eisenhower Park, located off North Street.
Activities include a motorcade of antique fire apparatus that will travel from the Liberty Rock Shopping Plaza, 589 Bridgeport Ave., to Meadowside Road, through Milford's downtown onto North Street, ending at Eisenhower Park. The motorcade will begin at 9 a.m. and arrive at approximately 9:45 at the park.

MARTINSBURG - A Nov. 8 plea hearing is set for a former volunteer firefighter accused of setting a blaze in Berkeley County that injured a firefighter from another department.
Berkeley County Prosecutor Pamela Games-Neely told a judge on Monday that James L. Blackford III agreed to enter a plea to first- degree arson and causing serious injury by arson.

When the New Gloucester Fire Department's parking lot became too small to hold all its public safety demonstrations, the New Gloucester Community Fair was born.
Although the fair, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, has grown to include fireworks, live music, food and games, the focus remains on public safety, said New Gloucester volunteer firefighter Scott Doyle, who has helmed the event since it started in 2001.

The Redlands Fire Department softball team took home the gold at the California Firefighter Olympics this month, beating out 19 other teams from throughout the state.
The Redlands firefighters played nine games over four days of the tournament, with the championship game July 15.

The man who died after falling over an outfield railing at a Texas Rangers game was a decorated firefighter and devoted father who had taken his 6-year-old son to the ballpark in hopes of catching a ball.
