LA HABRA HEIGHTS -- What seemed like a never-ending winter storm gave way to a weekend break Friday, bringing some sunshine and a lot of smiles to an estimated 200 artists and the organizers of the 45th annual Hillcrest Festival of Fine Arts.
Minutes before the festival was to open Friday morning, volunteers were still hanging colorful wind socks from the trees at Hillcrest Congregational Church and demonstrating artists were setting up the tools of their trade. Inside Barwick Hall, white satin ribbons marked the winning entries in eight categories including paintings, photography, ceramics, sculpture and religious. Wearable art fabrics and jewelry lined two walls of the hall.
