Loch Raven Village, a 500-unit apartment complex built just after World War II that plunged into foreclosure last year during the recession, was auctioned Tuesday on the steps of the Baltimore County Courthouse for $18.6 million.
Two bidders had registered to make offers on the beleaguered property, which has debt totaling about $29 million. But neither entered the bidding process, and the property was sold back to the lender, the Principal Financial Group, an insurance and investment company based in Des Moines, Iowa.
