The dissemination of birth control was only one of a host of interventions into the intimate and everyday practices of ordinary Egyptians that aimed at creating reformed and modernized families and productive citizens. [...] the adoption of a population program based on contraception entailed the recognition of Egyptian women as reproductive subjects for whom using birth control was to constitute part of the duties of citizenship even as it simultaneously delineated the normative parameters within which reproductive choice could be exercised.

This study examines how to fill the growing need for community college leaders by creating "grow-your-own" (GYO) leadership programs through a national interview study and a case study involving action research. The findings demonstrate design flaws that are typical in the development of GYO programs. Strategies for overcoming these flaws are recommended.

This paper uses the examples of three nineteenth-century cities-London, Philadelphia, and New York-to explore both what is permanent about the problem of water provision (that consumers want it clean, accessible, and free) and what is mediated by the forces of government policy and economic constraints. In some cases, municipal authorities first claimed control over water supplies before figuring out how to pay for their works. In others, they calculated that such arrangements were both too expensive and too risky to bear alone. Both approaches were complicated by the high costs of providing water to urban areas and by urban dwellers' belief that water should flow from their taps without charge. The result was, and remains, a market in which price is largely dictated by political demand...

Integration has been a recurrent theme on Chavez's political agenda-not Washington's kind, but the more regional-centric ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas)- which is given reality by the concessional oil prices Venezuela has negotiated with various Latin American countries, as well as his proposal for a development bank for South America, Banco del Sur (Bank of the South). Public opinion in Latin America in general has a low regard for International Financial Institutions (IFIs), especially the IMF, which has been widely chastised for its prejudicial treatment of the Argentine economic melt-down earlier this decade and for the scores of years it spent setting harsh conditions in return for providing access to international credit.
