The survey, conducted by Catholic Charities USA in early November 2005, drew information from more than 70 agencies from across the United States. Key findings include: -- 81 percent of agencies report an increase in need from the working poor; --64 percent of agencies cited an increase in the number of families seeking help; - -52 percent of agencies are seeing more seniors in need; and -- 49 percent are seeing more homeless seeking help.

  • Mt. SAC will offer free one-on-one financial aid assistance to high school seniors at its annual Cash for College workshop on Saturday, Feb. 7. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Learning Technology Center, Building 6 on the Walnut campus. Assemblymember Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina) is a co-sponsor of the event.

  • CHEYENNE -- To low-income seniors who need help with dressing, cooking, cleaning or getting around town, the need is now. But they must wait. That's because there's a five-month waiting list for the Home and Community-Based Waiver Program, run by the Wyoming Department of Health's Aging Division, which offers financial assistance to low-income seniors for home health-care and other services.

  • After five weeks of raising funds for the annual Santa Anita Family YMCA's Financial Assistance Program, campaign leaders announced that the all-volunteer effort raised $128,797, more than $3,000 above the original goal for monies to help provide programs and services for youths, teens, families and seniors.
