The number of international students pursuing secondary education at United States (U.S.) universities has been increasing over the past 25 years, and is expected to continue into the foreseeable future. However, these students have a plethora of choices among universities in the U.S. and foreign countries. Universities must distinguish themselves if they hope to obtain the most desirable students from around the world. Previous research by Agarwal and Winkler (1985), Lee and Tan (1984), Mazzarol and Soutar (2002), and McMahon (1992) has identified a number of factors that influence the choice of educational programs. This paper builds on existing research by re-examining some of those factors combined with additional factors and by examining the role of accreditation by The Association...

Homesickness is a major stressor for college students in general, and international students in particular, that has an adverse effect on their psychological health and academic performance. The present study examined the incidence and determinants of homesickness in a sample of international students from India attending a US university and compared the results to a control group consisting of American students in their freshman year. The results indicated that homesickness was significantly more prevalent in the Indian sample. For Indian students, anxiety and depression were positively correlated with homesickness, whereas financial aid, course load, and the intention to look for a job in the US after graduation had the opposite effect. The length of stay in the US, discrimination, an...

Manufacturing has taken hits from declining demand, construction and forest products have been affected by the housing bubble collapse, Middlebury College is retrenching after substantial losses in their invested endowment, and dairy farming is so threatened that state officials and the Congressional delegation are pressuring the US Secretary of Agriculture for changes in the milk pricing system. Combined with "green" thinking that stems from concern with global climate change, it is rapidly creating a new agricultural sector, though few think. its economic impact compares with that of dairying, yet.

Choosing a graduate (masters and doctoral) program of study at an ideal institution is probably one of the most important decisions students and their family will make. The graduate college selection involves identifying the most critical academic and non-academic factors, and weighing their importance against the large quantity of choices available. Academics are subdivided into institutional, departmental/program, and faculty factors, while non-academics are subdivided into personal reasons and influence of other people. This study reviews critical academic and non-academic factors influencing the college choice decisions of graduate students. Results of previous research indicate that graduate school selection factors vary according certain demographic variables including age, gender...

A national survey of college admissions directors found their top priority over the next two to three years is the recruitment of out- of-state and international students, who pay higher attendance costs. It was the only strategy that beat out the push to provide more financial aid to needy students.
The desire for so-called "full pay" students extended to community colleges, where 34 percent of respondents said an increase in full pay students was important for their institution.
