Katahdin Trust Co. President and CEO Jon Prescott on Thursday announced that Fred A. Brown has joined the bank as vice president, commercial services officer in the bank's commercial loan office at 12 Stillwater Ave.
Brown is an honors graduate of Husson University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and finance. He began his banking career with MBNA America. He later worked at Merrill Bank, where in 2007 he was promoted to senior vice president of commercial lending.

Chesapeake High School's first golf team coach and longtime area teacher John B. Irvine Jr. passed away on June 2 at the age of 72 in his home on Dataw Island, S.C.
Irvine was born May 19, 1938 in Richmond, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University and graduated from West Liberty College in West Virginia. He earned his master's degree at Morgan State University in Baltimore and pursued his doctorate from the University of Maryland. His professional career started in banking, finance and insurance and his secondary focus was on education.

NORFOLK - , 67, of the 500 block of Oak Grove Road, passed away June 1, 2010. He was born in Norfolk to the late William A. Sawyer and Lucille W. Sawyer and was also predeceased by his brother, Wayne A. Sawyer.
Frank was a graduate of Frederick Military Academy, Frederick College, and he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He enjoyed a 38-year career in finance and banking, retiring as a senior vice president at Bank of America.
