Nearly 60 percent of documents turned over to Allegheny County prosecutors in the criminal investigation of state Sen. Jane Orie were legislative in nature and constitutionally protected, attorneys for Senate Republicans said yesterday in court filings. The claims were part of more than 500 pages of documents filed yesterday in the case against Orie, R-McCandless. Her attorney claimed among other filings that the charges against her are vague and should be dismissed, and the district attorney is biased against her.

The Maine ethics commission on Thursday slapped backers of a casino referendum in Scarborough with $12,250 in fines for filing late financial reports, and questioned the disclosure after the election that a local lawyer who publicly endorsed the proposal had been paid $30,000 for consulting services. LOS ANGELES -- Justin Timberlake was granted a temporary restraining order Friday against a woman his attorney described as an obsessed stalker, court records show. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Cunningham III granted the "SexyBack" singer the protective order against Karen J. McNeil, 48. Timberlake's attorney, Evan Spiegel, described McNeil in court filings as a "mentally unstable celebrity stalker."
