It's easy to wax poetic in and around Front Royal, Va. AUGUSTA - A $10,000 grant through the Maine Arts Commission's SMART grant is providing adventurous audiences in Freeport, Portland, Westbrook, and Peaks Island with some wild and wooly chronicles of Maine's own Paul Bunyan, mighty woodsman, inventor of logging and leader of the best band of jim-crackin,' rip-snortin' rogues that ever tramped the Maine woods. The commission recently awarded more than $90,000 in grants for education programs throughout the state to provide rich learning experiences for students in kindergarten through grade 12. One recipient of this funding is the Figures of Speech Student Ensemble, or FOSSE, an after-school program for students from Freeport High School, which is in its fourth year.
