In an effort to help the victims and families affected by Hurricane Katrina, all Fifth Third Banking Centers in Michigan have been collecting public and private monetary donations on behalf of the American Red Cross. A special account has been set up where donation deposits will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Contributions to this fund enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling, relief supplies and other assistance to those in need as a result of the devastation left behind by one of the largest natural disasters in this country's history. Fifth Third Bank Eastern Michigan Power Partners Program was spearheaded in 2004 as an opportunity to facilitate mentoring. After making some modifications, the 2006 program has been taken to a whole new level by providing more opportunities for networking, coaching and skill building. Mentors are hand-selected by the Senior Executive Team and Diversity Committee, and are comprised of the Senior Team members and some of their direct reports. Protégés must complete one year of service and are nominated by their Manager and selected by the Diversity Committee.
