The ex-boyfriend of a woman who Columbia police believed might have been kidnapped from a hotel parking lot Wednesday has been charged with assault and felonious restraint.

Three bail bondsmen allegedly behaved more like criminals themselves when they went to retrieve a man at a house on 9th Street in St. Louis June 5. Now Kevin Ritrovato, 28, of Arnold; Sean T. Baker, 33, of Festus; and Shawn Boyer, 38, of Jackson, have each been charged with felonious restraint and third-degree assault.
The charges resulted from an investigation conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

A Columbia man charged with kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend over a 17-hour period last weekend was upset because the woman refused to let him to have dinner with her family at a McBaine restaurant, a police detective investigating the case said.
John David Jones, 46, was arraigned Tuesday in Boone County Circuit Court on charges of felony kidnapping, domestic assault and felonious restraint after his arrest at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at his north Columbia apartment at 3102 Alpine Drive, Unit E. He was being held today at Boone County Jail on $509,000 bond.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) A 20-year-old woman who kidnapped a pregnant teenager she met online in a foiled plot to steal her unborn baby has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Lauren Gash, of Odessa, pleaded guilty last month to kidnapping, assault and felonious restraint in the July 2007 attack on Amanda Howard, then 18, inside a Blue Springs motel room. Gash was sentenced Tuesday to eight years each on the first two counts and seven years on the third. The sentences will run concurrently.

The evidence adduced at trial did not warrant jury instructions on assault and on unlawful restraint. Two counts of felonious assault, as well as one count of kidnaping are allied offenses of similar import. The trial court should merge the allied offenses, pursuant to the States election, and resentence accordingly. Judgment affirmed in part, reversed in part and remanded for proceedings consistent with this opinion.

NEOSHO, Mo. -- Prosecutors on Monday filed three murder charges against a Micronesian man accused of opening fire inside of a church, killing three people and wounding five others during a worship service of a mostly Micronesian congregation.
Prosecutors also charged the man, Eiken Elam Saimon, 52, of Newton County with assault, felonious restraint for holding the congregation hostage, and armed criminal action. Another assault charge was pending, Newton County Prosecutor Scott Watson said.

A Columbia man who earlier this year had charges dropped in connection with a shooting because of a lack of witness cooperation was arrested early yesterday after police say he fired a gun and assaulted his pregnant girlfriend with a brick.
Derrick V. Petty, 18, of Sturgeon was arrested at about 8 a.m. yesterday on suspicion of three counts of third-degree assault, second-degree assault, felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.

An Independence man faces charges that he assaulted his mother and held ex-girlfriend against her will.
Howard S. Harmon, 27, was charged with felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of second-degree domestic assault stemming from an attack Friday in the 100 block of South Forest Avenue in Independence.
