As state and federal investigators continued probing finances at the state medical university, the school's governing board on Tuesday was briefed on an in-house review that they say is aimed at controlling spending for the billion-dollar bureaucracy.
Trustees at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey also adopted a $1.6 billion operating budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1. The plan increases spending by 5.6% and tuition for medical students by 4%. State residents attending the university's medical and dental schools will pay $21,390 in annual tuition.

DAYTON -- Dr. Richard Sievers II of Oakwood anticipated being charged with operating a drug-trafficking ring nearly nine months ago when he forfeited his medical license, according to State Medical Board of Ohio documents.
A federal grand jury charged Sievers, 53, with 19 federal counts of drug trafficking out of his office at Walnut Hills Family Care, 1900 Wayne Ave., according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office. He was arrested at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, by federal agents.
