But what if you wanted to read the work of the many writers who live year-round or seasonally on Deer Isle?
A new literary journal of work by two writing groups on the island now makes it possible to do just that. "Eggemoggin Reach Review," an anthology of prose and poetry by members of the Deer Isle Writers' Group and the Eggemoggin Writers' Collaborative, is for sale for $14.95 in many of the same island galleries that feature crafts. A few weeks ago, we received some product samples from MAC Cosmetics for the summer season. Three of us decided to test a few of the products and share our findings to help readers as they shop for makeup this season.
I was one of the testers, along with food writer Lindsey Nair and features editor Kathy Lu. In doing this review, we learned that our makeup comes from a variety of places, and we all have different preferences.

One of Allen's Facebook pages features the cookbook author, food writer and host of TV's "Chopped" brandishing a big Japanese blade alongside his nose. It is a knife by Shun (pronounced "Shoon").
