The purpose of this study is to discover if occupational preferences have any bearing on whether, or not, individuals decide to pursue entrepreneurial careers. Specifically, this paper seeks to determine if cognitive occupational expectancies (concerning perceived intrinsic and extrinsic occupational rewards) significantly influence plans to undertake entrepreneurship as a primary vocation. Past theory has determined relevant entrepreneurial rewards to be the intrinsic reward of independence, the intrinsic reward of a satisfying way of life, and the extrinsic reward of profit. Preference for each of these rewards is examined by utilizing the Valence Model of the Expectancy Theory. Findings indicate that individuals who perceive entrepreneurship as advantageous based on their attraction ...

From this moral high ground, the United States is assuring the world that a new facility for researching a horror shop of weaponized infectious diseases will be used purely for defensive purposes. The National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center's (NBACC) $128 million, 160,000-square-foot facility is under construction at Fort Detrick, Md. There, the United States has already weaponized more than a dozen diseases-including anthrax, plague, botulism and ebola-and bioengineered war-friendly "improvements." Scientists are also using DNA-synthesizing techniques to fabricate genetically altered or man-made viruses, and to study the feasibility of creating germ weapons targeting particular ethnicities. NIAD cheerily answers: "No," although "Rare accidents such as needle-sticks may ...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of measuring stress hormones and immunity following rape. The long-term goal is to evaluate the predictive value of stress-immune-inflammatory responses to later health outcomes. Fifteen women reporting rape were compared with 16 control participants. Serum stress hormones, proinflammatory cytokines, acute phase proteins, functional assays, and lymphocyte subsets were measured in blood samples. Women reporting rape had higher cytotoxic cells, lower B lymphocyte counts, higher proinflammatory biomarkers, and decreased lymphocyte proliferation compared to the control group. This finding suggests that rape produces activation of the innate immunity and suppression of some aspects of adaptive immunity. If these immune changes persist...
