A community nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting access to nutritious food for all, Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angels (see-LA) supports small fanners by connecting rural farms to urban tables through operation of the Crenshaw, Hollywood, LA Medical Center at Barnsdall Art Park, Central Avenue, Atwater Village, Echo Park and Watts farmers markets.

Blue sky, a light breeze and the city's mayor dressed as a watermelon greeted the hundreds of people who showed up last Thursday afternoon for the opening day of the South Portland Farmers Market. Held in Thomas Knight Park on the South Portland waterfront, the market came to fruition after the City Council amended its zoning and licensing rules to allow the market more flexibility.

WINFIELD - Dottie Kuhl said she can take six gourds that are the same basic shape and make each one have its own personality. Kuhl will demonstrate and sell the gourds she paints and sculpts from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today at the "time is ripe" celebration at the Putnam County Farmers Market. Other local artists also will be featured at the event.
