SALT LAKE CITY -- An inexperienced mother and under-eating may have contributed to an 8-month-old giraffe's death at Hogle Zoo over the weekend.
Zookeepers found the calf, Jamar, dead in the zoo's giraffe barn early Sunday, officials said Monday. A necropsy performed by the zoo's veterinary staff cited "failure to thrive" as the official cause of death.
