Maryland's top court has reprimanded an attorney for failing to fulfill a former client's request for documents the lawyer drafted or received during the course of the legal representation.
Rockville lawyer Timur Z. Edib's failure violated Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct requiring lawyers to "promptly comply with [a client's] reasonable requests for information" and to surrender papers and property to which the client is entitled, the Court of Appeals stated.

Team leader is Charles Hill, a co-signer of the Sept. 20, 2001 neocon ultimatum to Bush, nine days after 9/11, warning the president if he did not attack Iraq, his failure to do so "will constitute an early and perhaps decisive surrender to the war on international terrorism." A second member of Rudy's team is Martin Kramer, an Israeli-American who, according to Ken Silverstein of Harper's, "spent 25 years at Tel Aviv University and whose Middle East policy can best be summarized as, 'What's Best for Israel?'" Silverstein calls Rudy's eight-man advisory group "AIPAC's Dream Team"-AIPAC being the Israeli lobby, two of whose leaders go on trial in January for espionage against the United States.

A probate lawyer could be required to surrender a portion of his fees as a sanction for his failure to obtain prior approval for payment from the private funds of the personal representative of an estate, the D.C. Court of Appeals has ruled.
The personal representative of an estate retained the lawyer to obtain possession of the decedent's residence from a relative. When the matter was resolved, the lawyer accepted a $7,000 payment for his services directly from the personal representative's own funds, even though his retainer agreement provided that he would not collect his fees until probate was completed and that his fees would be paid from estate funds.

At long last, thankfully, the war over a Wal-Mart store in Woodland Park seems to have come to a close. It ended not with a climactic battle, leading to one side's unconditional surrender, but with one faction's failure to muster the foot soldiers needed to mount another offensive.
The group working to block the store, Citizens for Responsible Growth, came up 17 signatures short of what's required to put yet another Wal-Mart related referendum on the ballot. Those 17 signatures not only saved the city the estimated $11,000 it would cost to hold another vote, but spared residents the harder feelings that perpetuating this bitter and drawn-out feud would have fostered.
