HARTLAND - A 13-year-old student at Somerset Valley Middle School informed the school's resource officer Monday afternoon that she had received a pornographic video on her Facebook page. An investigation determined it was a virus. A pornographic image had been forwarded from a Facebook account to a student's Facebook account," Chris McCrillis, school resource officer for the Newport Police Department, said Tuesday. "It turned out to be a virus that Facebook is trying to get a grip on. It's something that got out of control.
A few weeks ago I developed a nasty 24-hour bug while home alone. Yukky, yukky virus," I rolled over in bed and typed into my Facebook account. "Feel bad, tummy hurt, want Mommy.

A massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack targeting a single pro-Georgian blogger drastically slowed or stopped five major sites: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LiveJournal, and Fotki. Security teams worked around the clock to slow the damage as users grew more and more impatient, uncertain, and frustrated. Security researchers at McAfee Avert Labs also detected a spam campaign that spooled the blogger's Gmail address to flood recipients with spam messages. Adam Rothschild, VP of network architecture and operations at Voxel dot Net Inc, advised companies to seek more details from their host administrators about contingency plans for h...

There are many stories out there already, which any manager will share when complaining about employees. There is the one with the salesman who scans Twitter for hours. And then there is the employee who harasses a co-worker several cubicles down from him by hijacking her Facebook account and posting harassing comments. And of course there is the worker who slams the employer on LinkedIn and is fired. From workplace distraction to conduit for stalking, harassment and other criminal activity, the rise of social networking has its supporters and its detractors. While some lament the greater bandwidth demands, virus/Trojan infiltration and social engineering - identity theft - issues that can pummel a company's computer network and employees, along with sapping of productivity and channel ...
