A former Prince George's County police officer admitted to organizing the sale of black-market cigarettes and alcohol and using his authority as a police officer to protect the shipments. Richard Delabrer, who retired from the police department after he was charged in November, pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by extortion "under color of official right" and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for the gun offense, but a sentence of 10 to 12 years is more likely based on sentencing guidelines, U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein said.

A construction code official in Englewood and Old Tappan pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of attempted extortion under the color of official right in U.S. District Court in Trenton, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Piero "Peter" Abballe, 46, of Old Tappan appeared before Judge Joel A. Pisano, spokeswoman Rebekah Carmichael said.

Former Upland Mayor John "JP" Pomierski is expected to surrender to FBI agents today at the Federal Court in Riverside, according to the U.S. District Attorney's office. Cammarano III, former mayor of the City of Hoboken, N.J., pleaded guilty today and admitted accepting $25,000 in illicit cash contributions in exchange for exercising his future official influence and authority, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced. Cammarano, 32, of Hoboken, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares and pleaded guilty to a one-count criminal information charging him with conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right. Judge Linares continued Cammarano's release on a $100,000 bond pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Aug. 3, 2010.
