Recently, Doug Chrisman, a student at the Culinary Art Institute in Hyde Park, N.Y., returned to the Culinary Arts II class at the Columbia Area Career Center. The Rock Bridge High graduate had come home for the week to see family and friends before starting a six- month "externship" at Justus Drugstore: a Restaurant, in Smithville, outside Kansas City.

Emmett O'Brien Technical High School teacher Craig Beattie of Seymour is getting an education this summer that he can take back to class in September. Beattie, who teaches in the Manufacturing Technology Department, is participating in a National Science Foundation externship at Spectrum Plastics Molding Inc. in Ansonia.
He is one of 12 Connecticut high school and community college teachers spending part of their summer vacation working at businesses throughout the state to learn about technological advancements. The externship program teaches educators about emerging technologies in the workplace.
