Democrats on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee have asked Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell to answer for a host of voting irregularities they say occurred in Ohio Nov. 2. On Wednesday, the committee is holding a hearing, Preserving Democracy: What Went Wrong in Ohio.
This research centers on the linkage between alienation and voter turnout, by considering the various dimensions of alienation-powerlessness, meaninglessness, and cynicism-and how they might interact to influence the decision on whether to vote. Logit analysis of a pooled American National Election Study data set, 1964-2000, suggests that feelings of powerlessness and meaninglessness depress turnout, as expected. The tentacles of union influence have manifested in San Gabriel. The school board recently voted in favor of using a PLA agreement for a $65 million construction bond approved by voters in 2008. Rather than securing the best bids possible from both union and non- union contractors alike, this agreement would set aside at least half the jobs for union labor. Why would a school board want to favor the unions and oppose competitive bidding, which lowers costs and increases quality? UAW Local 249 members who work at Ford's Claycomo plant will vote Sunday afternoon on whether to approve a new four-year contract. Local union officials have told their members to gather at 1 p.m. Sunday at Winnetonka High School in Kansas City to hear an explanation of the tentative agreement. Researchers often point to the concept of "political connectivity " as an explanation for voting behavior in the American electorate. Simply put, the idea is the more people have, the more they have to lose, and, therefore, the more likely they are to vote. This paper will expand this explanation to incorporate young men between the ages of 21 and 25 during presidential elections held between 1948 and 1972 to determine if there is a correlation between induction and voting behavior. Additionally, this work will compare young men 's voting behavior to the voting rates of young women and older men, and determine if young men tend to vote for different candidates than other demographic groups during times of war.

In some sense, of course, we've been drinking effluent - recycled through lakes, rivers, oceans, clouds, rain, snow and aquifers - for all of history. And today's purification technology can turn effluent into drinking water that's cleaner than what now comes out of many big-city taps. Even so, San Diego has discovered that "toilet to tap" isn't exactly a winning political slogan.
