Based on surveys of members of the National Association of Forensic Economics (NAFE), the predominant method for calculating worklife expectancy involves the use of Markov process statistical worklife expectancy tables, with the LPE method as a distant second, use of a fixed retirement date as a close third, and with median or mean years to final labor force separation a distant fourth. However, no paper has specifically addressed the reasons why the majority of forensic economists (or at least a majority of those completing NAFE surveys) apparently feel that statistical worklife tables compiled by standard Markov process models are superior to calculations based on the LPE version of Markov process models. A statement arguing that the LPE method is superior to standard statistical work...

The paper attempts to examine the socio-economic determinants of life expectancy for 91 developing countries using multiple regression and probit frameworks. Disaggregated probit regression has been applied for three groups of countries with low, medium and high life expectancy. Most of explanatory variables turned out to be statistically insignificant, which imply that relevant socio-economic factors like per capita income, education, health expenditure, access to safe water, and urbanization cannot always be considered to be influential in determining life expectancy in developing countries. Based on the analyses it has been suggested that the countries should formulate and implement appropriate social sector policies and programs to increase physicians' availability, and reduce adult...

DeSanctis far exceeded expectations: This year, she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Large swaths of the United States are showing decreasing or stagnating life expectancy even as the nation's overall longevity trend has continued upwards, according to a county-by-county study of life expectancy over two decades.
In one-quarter of the country, girls born today may live shorter lives than their mothers and the country as a whole is falling behind other industrialized nations in the march toward longer life, according to the study.

This article presents an analysis of trends in mortality differentials and life expectancy by socioeconomic status for male Social Security-covered workers aged 60 or older. Mortality differentials, cohort life expectancies, and period life expectancies by average relative earnings are estimated. Period life expectancy estimates for the United States are also compared with those of other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

I would hesitate to tell people what he was doing, because I didn't feel that good about it myself," Elam once told the Boston Globe. "I used to say, 'He's in music,' but I would never specify rap. When he said that this is what he wanted to do, I was very unhappy, to be totally honest. Why would he want to waste his time doing this rap thing? I just couldn't see it. I have to admit that I was wrong. I made an improper judgment at that time. But I've come a long way.
Judge Elam did the best he could. He and his wife tried. They sent Keith to the prestigious Noble & Greenough School but that didn't work as planned. "Keith wasn't like his older brother who was an ideal student, class president and graduated with honors," Elam said. "Keith wanted to be his own person."
"Rap is way mo...

The purpose of this study is to discover if occupational preferences have any bearing on whether, or not, individuals decide to pursue entrepreneurial careers. Specifically, this paper seeks to determine if cognitive occupational expectancies (concerning perceived intrinsic and extrinsic occupational rewards) significantly influence plans to undertake entrepreneurship as a primary vocation. Past theory has determined relevant entrepreneurial rewards to be the intrinsic reward of independence, the intrinsic reward of a satisfying way of life, and the extrinsic reward of profit. Preference for each of these rewards is examined by utilizing the Valence Model of the Expectancy Theory. Findings indicate that individuals who perceive entrepreneurship as advantageous based on their attraction ...
