• Author and Literary Executrix, Jewell Handy Gresham Nemiroff, Passes at 82

As executrix, she served as consultant to stage, film and printed productions of [Lorraine Hansberry]'s work in the United States and abroad. She was one of the primary people responsible for the revival of Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" to Broadway in 2004, which had sold-out runs for 12 weeks. Its cast, including Sean Combs and Phylicia Rashad, made it one of the most financially successful plays for the season while winning two Tony awards from its four nominations. Gresham believed in continuing the legacy of Hansberry's work through her commitment to social justice issues. • New Jersey Appellate Division Rules Executrix Can Sue Lawyer for Malpractice

The executrix of an estate, but not the beneficiaries, can sue a law firm for malpractice regarding the advice it gave her on how to pay federal estate taxes - advice which allegedly resulted in individual tax liability, the New Jersey Appellate Division has ruled. The federal estate tax owed by the estate totaled over $900,000. In order to pay the tax, the executrix, allegedly upon the advice of the defendants, withdrew funds from an IRA and made equal distributions to the beneficiaries. This resulted in a personal income tax burden on each beneficiary of approximately $298,000.
