I once watched a moon rise full from the edge of a great river and thought of ageless beauty. Endless cycles. Timeless moments. The following dawn, the sun rose from the same water's edge and began its race across the sky. Was it trying to catch its own reflection in the retiring moon that waxes, grows full and wanes each month?
The two moments moved me to open my journal and pen the word "ageless." I underlined it, noted the progress of the sun and began a list from my own life's experience of things that seem to be ageless.

Dear Reader, I am willing to bet that in your life you either have, have had or will have a self-destructive loved one that you dread someday getting a call about.
In my case, it was my cousin Jimmy, and the call came last Saturday, the day after his 45th birthday. His body had been found at his apartment in Kansas City. Mr. Death is fickle but can be kind: He took away a troubled man, but brought back a curious little boy who was joyously greeted by his parents and big sister when he was born in 1965. How the extended family loved to watch him dart around exploring everything, his mother declaring proudly, "He's all boy!" Crazy about dinosaurs, he could tell you about them from aptosaurus to zigogonthaurus.

Though they cannot supplant nor replace other methodologies, films can possibly raise new questions, provide different perspectives, and reveal unique ways of knowing about seminal subject, at least by comparison to the standard fare of academic analysis. Each one, "ethics" and "leadership," draw upon substantially different intellectual literatures, scholarly methodologies, traditional assumptions, and disciplinary perspectives. Film, often far better than social science literature, may provide a more "holistic account" of not only individual lives, but entire situations where ethical leadership is practiced. Finally, ethical leadership includes the use of symbols. Symbols abound throughout, thus giving the story meaning, depth, and power beyond simply "a typical feel-good" movie. List...
