  • Over the past two decades, the multidimensional model of quality attributes that is often referred to as "Kano's theory of attractive quality" (Kano et al. 1984) has gained increasing exposure and acceptance among academics and practitioners alike. Despite this, no research has provided a systematic review of the subsequent development of this theory since its introduction. The aims of this study are: a) to synthesize and organize the extant literature on the subject; and b) to suggest areas that require further research. A review was conducted of 33 papers related to the theory of attractive quality. The content of these papers was analyzed and theoretical and methodological research themes were identified. The study revealed several interesting developments with respect to methodologi...

  • Financial education is a critical topic/skill for the development of a progressive society. A project was designed and implemented to address two primary objectives. The first was to provide students with the opportunity to identify a critical need in a target community and to design an effective approach which would address the documented financial education challenges that are disparately experienced by low to moderate income predominately minority individuals and families. The second primary objective was to serve critical needs in their surrounding university community by applying their academic and professional learning to real life community needs. The development of this project provided a vehicle for students to use their academic training and community service commitments to as...

  • In order to drive process improvement, Toyota uses A3 reports as a tool to identify and solve problems. A3 reports are usually written on paper size 11 inches by 17 inches and are enriched with visuals such as pictures, diagrams, and charts to improve communication. To date, the author has found no study explaining how to implement A3 reports in manufacturing operations. The purpose of this exploratory study is to show how A3 reports were implemented in a successful process improvement project in aircraft maintenance and repair operations. In doing so, he shows a systematic approach, improvement event, and the process used to implement and document A3 reports. The duration of an improvement event is generally four weeks and has four distinct phases: 1) preparation and training; 2) proce...
