UPLAND - It was relaxed Sunday at Brazilian Mystique Relaxation, far different than Friday's and Saturday's tense confrontations with protesters who claim the business is a front for prostitution.
Danery Velasquez, who owns the business along with another employee, denies that claim and said her business is a place where people can receive aromatherapy sessions. Aromatherapy is the practice in which a person uses the smell of essential plant oils to relax.

Amanda Sears, associate director of the Environmental Health Strategy Center, has taken standard home recipes for green cleaners and tweaked them over the years to make them her own.
The basic building blocks of home cleaners are borax, baking soda, lemon juice and water, she said. She also uses a lot of different essential oils because they have certain desirable properties. Tea tree oil, for example, is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so she uses it to make a mold cleaner and a general cleaner.

Amanda Nolan lives in a yurt. It's a round, cozy, surprisingly spacious building which she built for $14,000 two years ago on a plot of land in the Lincoln County town of Alna. She lives there, off the grid except for the Internet, with her boyfriend and business partner, Joe, her two daughters, a pair of tawny-colored cats named Nori and Chester and an enormous, jet-black Newfoundland named Finn. Outside, a small herd of goats bleats as visitors arrive, slowly making their way down the long driveway that leads to her homestead.
I own my home outright at 29. I don't have a mortgage," she said. "I don't think many other people can say that. It's pretty cool being debt-free.

Many skeptics of alternative medicine think that they have found an easy target of ridicule when discussing aromatherapy. The premise that floral smells can affect human physiology and psychology may seem far-fetched at first glance, but preliminary scientific studies are substantiating these claims. Yet in France, aromatherapy is a respected branch of mainstream medicine, and essential oils are administered there by physicians similar to other prescription drugs.
It is claimed that the principles of this artful science date back thousands of years to the Egyptians who widely used infused oils and herbal preparations. However, it was a French chemist, Rene Maurice Gattefosse, who coined the term "aromatherapie" in the 1920s. Working in his laboratory one day, Gattefosse accidentally set...

Everyone needs Omega-6 and Omega-3 essential fatty acids because our bodies don't produce them. But it's important to keep them in the right balance to each other - a 2:1 ratio of Omega-6 to -3. The Mediterranean Diet helps achieve that balance by focusing on using olive oil instead of vegetable cooking oils that are high in Omega-6.
Chef Nick Stellino, of PBS-TV fame, uses Pompeian OlivExtra Plus with Omega-3 DHA for sautéing, baking and preparing soups, sauces and marinades because OlivExtra Plus has both olive oil and an added infusion of Omega-3 to help achieve a better balance.
If you are going to cook with oil, doesn't it make sense to cook with one that contains more Omega-3?" asks Chef Stellino. In fact, OlivExtra Plus contains a full 32 mg of Omega-3 per serving, which the FDA...
