Infants to nonagenarians from 447 cities in 30 states assembled to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer screening. Survivors wore pink scarves. Cindy Young, data processing officer for Fairfax State Savings Bank, watched them all proudly. Working nights and weekends, Young and a steering committee gathered friends, relatives and colleagues to organize the annual event. With assets of $136 million, Fairfax State Savings has been a major sponsor for about 14 years, paying half the registration fees for all its team's participants (100 percent for bank employees and their spouses)-$10,985 last year. (Now, Tweens, it's time to add detail to that main idea.) Then, in 1979, Women's History Week was created to coincide with International Women's Day, which is observed on March 8. This was followed in 1981 with a resolution passed by Congress to officially recognize Women's History Week. Finally, in 2001, Congress passed a resolution proclaiming March as Women's History Month. (There you have it, Tweens: Your first paragraph. Cool job.)

Hello, happy shopper in aisle No. 9. I see you down there, glancing guiltily this way and then that, terrified by the idea that someone you know might see you buying dye for your beard. It's mortifying, I know. Especially since you're a woman.
In a city this size, it's hard to get away with shopping for your personal needs. The very second you pick up a spray for private odors or an embarrassing itch, a dozen friends are there pointing and laughing.
