ATLANTA, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Julius H. Hollis, Chairman of the Alliance for Digital Equality (ADE), issued the following statement regarding the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) announcement that the commission will seek further public comments on net neutrality policy:
I am pleased that the FCC is continuing to seek different perspectives on broadband policy from a wide array of groups and industry leaders. It is critical that we find the best way forward through open dialogue and common sense agreements on Internet policy. Delivering broadband access to the 14 million Americans currently unconnected should be a top priority and Washington must be focused on achieving this goal.

The Landrieu administration is careful to portray the mayor's Tax Fairness Commission as a vehicle to increase equality, as opposed to revenue. But those two needs will inevitably compete in a debate the commission is triggering regarding nonprofit property tax exemptions.
The commission spent part of its first meeting on Feb. 3 dissecting options for squeezing money from properties owned by nonprofits, namely by amending or circumventing the state constitutional provision that keeps most nonprofit property off tax rolls.

If British education officials have their way, it will soon be difficult to be sure which students are girls and which are boys.
Britain's Equality and Human Rights Commission recently warned schools that they cannot require girls to wear skirts.

A report released this week in Britain, intended to assess the basis for widespread perceptions, may create a framework for similar assessment in Lewiston-Auburn. The study, requested by the UK-based Equality and Human Rights Commission, was titled "Social housing allocation and immigrant communities" and investigated the use of public housing by immigrants.
While an ocean away, and driven by different forces on a different scale, human nature and public perception seem to follow a similar logic in Britain as Maine with respect to benefits provided to new immigrants. In Britain, as this research sought to better understand, there has been growing perception of unfair housing benefits being provided to immigrants or foreigners. Established residents, perhaps concerned that other needy ci...
