Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), BOEM announces the availability of the OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program 2012- 2017 Draft PEIS prepared by BOEM to support the Proposed Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2012-2017. BOEM concurrently requests comments and announces public hearings.
Within the next two weeks, the Bureau of Reclamation will release the draft environmental impact study for the Southern Delivery System. The bureau has released most of the technical documents that the EIS will be based on. One of them, the "Water Resources Technical Report," weighs in at 649 pages, takes 30.5 MB of memory and includes 75 tables, 95 maps, graphs and illustrations, and a two- page "List of Abbreviations.
The National Park Service is expanding the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that is being prepared for updating the General Management Plan (GMP) for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. As part of this conservation planning and environmental impact analysis effort, the Draft EIS will include a wilderness study to determine if any additional portions of the park should be recommended for inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System (currently the park contains 130,790 acres of Congressionally designated Wilderness).

HOLDEN - The Maine Department of Transportation has hit another bump in the road for its planned connector route to link Interstate 395 with Route 9 and ease traffic between Canadian Maritime Provinces and the federal highway system. Federal Highway Administration officials informed the DOT late last week that a full environmental impact study of the $40 million connector route is needed, Transportation Commissioner David Cole said at Monday's Holden Town Council meeting.
