• Hatchery Site to Spawn Center; Supporters Hope Fish Education and Research Facility Hooks Public On Environmental Cause

A 16,000-square-foot education center will sprout on the grounds of the old Vancouver Trout Hatchery, according to plans laid by the Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center. The state Senate on Sunday approved a capital budget that includes $700,000 to design a new classroom and research center at the site east of the Interstate 205 Bridge on the old Evergreen Highway. Gov. Christine Gregoire is planning to sign the bill, but a spokeswoman said the governor is still going through it section by section to determine where she will exercise her line-item veto power.
