While the New Orleans City Council touts lower electricity rates for Entergy customers this month, the clock is ticking for negotiations on how it will protect those same customers from the fallout of a crumbling power production system agreement.
Last November, federal regulators ruled that Entergy subsidiaries in Arkansas and Mississippi could exit the cost-sharing agreement among the six Entergy subsidiaries, a system the two utilities say is costing them millions of dollars. Entergy Arkansas Inc. and Entergy Mississippi Inc. intend to leave the system in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
