Blackett and Klinger rationalize that while the associations with student achievement have been found, further research is still needed to better understand how library media centers affect student achievement and reading enjoyment. They observe that one of the major weaknesses of the majority of current and past research investigating these associations between library media centers and students' achievement and enjoyment has been the inability to provide direct causal evidence. Hence, while significant correlations have been found, there is no research that has been able to demonstrate that funds directed towards increased school library staffing and resources actually result in higher student outcomes in reading.
Jeffrey Backus is a little unconvinced at attempts to put a value on work done in a home. How can you put a value on the enjoyment of something you have?" says the president of Manor House Kitchen and Bath, based in Jeannette. "It's like buying a Corvette, driving it for four years and selling it. You get a lot less money than you paid, but how do you put a value on the fun you had driving it?
Its a far cry from the beer halls of Mack Samples youth where he first learned to square dance some 50 years ago, but calling out steps for dancers under the shade of the great oaks and maples at the State Capitol Complex suits him fine. Samples, Lou Maiuri and Steve Ballman called out steps for the old time square dancers Sunday afternoon during the 2011 Vandalia Gathering. Together, the men have nearly 100 years experience. For Samples, 71, it was a skill he picked up from dancing over the years. He grew up in Courton, a town that no longer exists but once sat about seven miles north of Clendenin on W.Va. 4, and he started out dancing the squares in the 1950s in beer halls along the Elk River, he said. Ive done this (calling dances) practically my whole life and Ive never had a lesson...

Kekes makes extensive use of literary sources to illustrate what makes a particular style of life deficient, unrealistic, or inappropriate versus one that is realistic, coherent, and admirable. [...] as one develops a style of life, personal evaluation - drawing on both internal and external sources for help - is necessary to determine the adequacy of one's style of life.
There's more to transportation than planes, trains and automobiles. Especially in Roanoke, where bikes, hikes and heritage tours add so much to our enjoyment. But each amenity takes substantial funding to build or preserve. The government, while making a substantial contribution, can do only so much. Last week, Roanoke City Council endorsed applications for four groups seeking to win grants from the Virginia Department of Transportation for projects that enhance communities. Each group will need to come up with 20percent in matching funds.
If you're gardening more but enjoying it less, maybe it's time to add some labor-saving ideas to that list of New Year's resolutions. Those can range from downsizing to mulching, from using native plants to switching to raised beds.
